My Fair Wedding

Pirate Theme

When we were asked to make a Pirate inspired wedding cake for David Tutera….we were super excited.  The entire team was on the job.

The bottom tier was a scrunched fabric look with multiple metallic shades airbrushed in.

We created several edible treasure chests with jewels and gems cascading out

Carrying the wedding cake onto set

All in a days work

A handcrafted map with directions to a secret treasure was placed in the middle of the cake.

Bride and Groom Custom toppers finished the look.

Happily Ever After

We look forward to the next episode to film in late October.

Catalina Island….why yes

Posted in Wedding Cakes with tags , , on May 12, 2010 by A Sweet Design

Once upon a time  Monique from A Signature Wedding called and asked if A Sweet Design traveled to Catalina Island, as in Avalon, CA 90704. The answer was a prompt yes.

Eli and Jordana first came in to try our cakes early this year. That’s when it happened….Jordana fell in love, with chocolate cake layered with orange buttercream, ganache and grand marnier.

During this cake consultation, I learned that Jordana and Eli were dancers. Real, fancy shmancy dancers. So it was without a doubt that this passion had to be incorporated into the design.

After months of planning, the day finally arrived, May 3, 2010. Brittini and I packed up and departed on the USS Catalina Express with backpacks filled with decorating supplies and a large box packed with the amazing cake.  We made our way to the casino ballroom. We utilized the kitchen to complete final details. The one final detail that could not be completed until 5 p.m. was turning on the rotating topper. So, we had to kill a little time. First we discovered Armstrong Seafood. Great clam chowder….and beer in a plastic cup (not so good). We walked through town and enjoyed a local festival. The Girl Scouts were selling AMAZING apple cheesecake bites…we just had to try.  Coyote Joe’s caught our attention where I discovered the difference between a good margarita and a not so good one.  Before making our way back to complete the cake, we had to try the mojitos at Luau Larry’s. They were amazing.

We had a great adventure and relaxing day. I hope that Jordana and Eli danced the night away after enjoying a sweet piece of cake!

Sexy as can be!!!!

Krista Mason Photography

I can not express in words how much I loved making this wedding cake.

When I first meet Scott and Valerie I realized how important their wedding day was.  Valerie had really done her homework and new exactly which details she wanted front and center.   Bravo! on a job well done.  I just love seeing it all come together and Krista Mason Photography captured the day just perfectly.  The Westlake Village Inn, as usual, offered an amazing background for the day.  The Tuscan Garden is by far one of the sweetest spots at the Lovely Westlake Village.

I love how absolutley perfect the color of the wedding cake went with every little teal detail.  The slices served where alternating vanilla and chocolate cake with bavarian chocolate chips and raspberry jam.  To complete the look of the cake was whipped vanilla buttercream in just the right shade of teal.  Hand made white flowers with teal centers and a brown fondant ribbon around the base of each tier completed this sexy cake.

If loving cake is wrong…I don’t wanna be right

Posted in Just Chatting with tags , , on March 28, 2010 by A Sweet Design

I know that I am not supposed to admit that I had a bite of cake tonight…but I did.  If my trainer reads this, I’m busted.  It was our chocolate cake with nutella buttercream filling.  Oh-my-goodness….the feeling of bliss usually reserved for events like finding a great pair of heels on sale was in full force as the melt-in-your-mouth nutella made friends with my tummy.

I don’t want to brag and I shouldn’t be so forward…but Damn…our cake is moist, delicous and worth every single calorie.

Have you hugged a cake today? (well…you probably shouldn’t, it’s a bit messy)

Striking Gold at Lucky Strike

Posted in Birthday, Birthday Cakes with tags , , , on February 1, 2010 by A Sweet Design

I love the idea of celebrating your birthday at Lucky Strike Lanes…it’s all inclusive.  You can drink it up at the bar, eat great grub and toss a heavy round ball as fast as you can at perfectly still targets.  I love it!!!!   When Virginia decided to have her husbands 40th birthday party at Lucky Strike she knew she needed a cake that was equally fun.  Since John is a drummer, what better cake idea then a bass drum.  Fondant covered and filled with yummy coffee buttercream and chocolate ganache.

Lucky Stike Birthday Bash

“Thank you sooooo very much for the amazing cake you made for John’s 40th B-day. Words can not express how amazing your work is and it soo fit the event with his love of drumming.  The taste….OMG delicious! To this day I am still hearing about the cake and how amazing it looked and tasted! Everyone is asking me who the baker was, so I was happy to refer you to all our friends.  Everyone who worked at LuckyStrike was asking me who the baker was too!” – Virginia
